For the month of November, HostGator scored a total uptime of 99.94%!

Here’s a repost of the total response time spreadsheet we posted earlier so you can compare the outages.

You will notice in the later dates, the outages were much shorter when they were experienced. This is because we changed the resolution to one minute ping tests. Therefore, if they are only offline for 20 seconds, we show it as 60 seconds instead of 5 minutes as we did before.
Because of the mixed 5 minute and 1 minute testing period, please note the uptime experiences was actually greater than 99.94%! Very impressive.
This reference has important information on how our HostGator tests are performed. These results are based on full page load requests to a test 10K file used throughout our network for accurate reporting. All uptime percentages are based on a 1 minute ping resolution which is the highest setting possible.
The testing performed here is funded independantly by the site owner. The equipment and network required to operate these tests costs an incredible amount of money for us to maintain. If we helped you reach your web hosting decision, we would be greatful if you purchased your hosting plan through our links here. Without viewer support, this resource wouldn’t exist. Thank you.

Thanks for viewing our statistics for October. Below, you will find our Uptime Report for October. 2007.

As you can see there were five days in which there were problems with server outages and reliability. Let’s take a closer look:

October 9th: 5 minutes
October 12th, 5 minutes
October 23rd, 5 minutes
October 25th, 25 minutes
October 30th, 35 minutes
First, we need to keep in mind we only send page load requests every 5 minutes. So if the server was only down for 30 seconds, we will report the problem as 5 minutes. We could change the server pings to 1 minute but it would overload the shared server we are on and use too many resources.
We are considering having a blank loader page used as the testing page. This would require a very small page to load for accuracy and would remove the demand for Wordpress to load the page every minute. We might consider this for our December reporting forward. Not sure yet.
Either way, we can guarantee our server was offline for at least 20 minutes on October 25th, and 30 minutes on October 30th. Either way, we are satisfied with the outage times in total for the month of October, 2007.
Overall, we grade HostGator an A- for server uptimes.
